This time lapse features four rockets being launched from nearby Poker Flat (preceded by two test rockets also visible in the time lapse). They release chemical trails in the ionosphere, lighting up in a white color that makes it easy to distinguish from the aurora and allowing to observe neutral winds (charged particles follow the magnetic field which is made visible by the aurora, but the bulk of the mass consists of neutral atmospheric particles).
