Randy rode the Whirinaki Forest trail in Sept 2010. The trail is purpose built and weaves through one of the most spectacular and interesting forests in the world. The forest is adjacent to the Te Urewera National Park on New Zealand's North Island. The trails are suitable for beginner level mountain bikers, but some fitness will help with some of the climbs.

A nice feature of the forest is that a variety of tracks are available at the trailhead - so plenty to satisfy a group travelling together. The trailhead is remote and the only accomodation is bush camping. We stayed at the nearby Mangamate Falls campsite run by the Department of Conservation. Facilities there include picnic tables and a cooking shelter.
