"Sex-positivity is much more complex than whether you like sex or not," Dr. Charlie Glickman writes at his website CharlieGlickman.com. And in this inspiring talk unpacking sexual shaming, cultural stigmas, and personal communication, Dr. Glickman explores some of the fundamental aspects of individuals' and society's relationship to sex. "It's not about the kind of sex you have," he says, "it's about your relationship to the sex you have."
Beyond merely discussing the importance of having "a positive relationship with sexuality," Dr. Glickman also discusses the way that mainstream culture often discourages people from being fully self-expressed about their sexual selves, and why it can be so difficult to overcome. "If I'm really going to embrace who I am, I really need to embrace all of who I am, even the parts I'd rather not," he says, role-modeling what sexual authenticity could look like.
