1. Patama Roonrakwit Interview
On October 19, 2010 Patama Roonrakwit spoke at Limkokwing University as part of the Sahmakum Teang Tnaut Youth Project’s Lecture Series ‘Right To The City’. Patama Roonrakwit is one of Thailand’s leading young architects and has pioneered work in both community architecture and low cost housing. Educated at Silpakorn University (Architecture) and Oxford Brookes University (Development Practices) Patama worked initially with local urban poor housing organizations before founding Community Architects for Shelter and Environment (CASE) in 1999 working with various Thai slum communities. Her other work includes an innovative low cost housing project named ‘ TEN’ in which 10 friends grouped together to build on one site thereby reducing costs. She emphasises that each design process is a process of learning for all participants, including herself. She was a recipient of the award ‘young architect with outstanding work’ from Association of Siamese Architects (ASA) and besides practicing she is also a visiting lecturer at several universities in Thailand and global tutor for the Centre for Development and Emergency Planning at Oxford Brookes.
