A teaser trailer for a film shot on a mini-dv for $7K CDN of my own money. Currently the project is on hold indefinitely, due to some technical issues. I now look at it as the best Film School I could've put myself through, since it led to my next short WHITE RED PANIC, which had none of those problems, and got a lot of attention and kudos to boot.

hey man, nice trailer. dig the concept. I actually saw the short version and thought it was well done. Look forward to seeing it.
  • Ayz Waraich plus 4 years ago
thanks man. This version is similar, but in the end VERY different to the short.

Much more of a narrative film. :)

well done! How long will the film take?
  • Ayz Waraich plus 3 years ago

did you shoot in letter box? i don't know how you got that resolution.
  • Ayz Waraich plus 3 years ago
No, I cropped later. The resolution isn't really out of the ordinary.

I did shoot in THIN detail mode, which squeezes a little more detail out of the dvx.

i've been waiting for this since you posted the teaser on dvxuser about 2 years ago :D do you have any idea when it'll be done?
  • Ayz Waraich plus 3 years ago
we ran into some major issues in post. You live and you learn. At this point i'm a little unsure. Threw my frustrations into the White Red Panic short.
  • patrick jennings 3 years ago
keep at it man. it'll be well worth it

i watched the short. noticed a lot of the same camera movements. very cool style you're developing.
  • Ayz Waraich plus 3 years ago
Thanks Patrick. I like consistency in directors.

I'm diggin the music selection - it goes really well to create the over all feel.

Somewhat reminescent of sneaker pimps - six underground being matched with "The Saint"
  • Ayz Waraich plus 3 years ago
wow i hadn't thought of that combo in years. well remembered sir.

    and thanks. :)

really like this...luved" white red panic". really luv ur shooting style and admire how u seem to actually respond to every single post..lol.

Question: how do u find shooting with the dvx100b...thinking of getting one in maybe a month.
  • Ayz Waraich plus 3 years ago
i figure people are taking the time to watch, so saying thanks is the least i can do.

    so thanks. :)

and the dvx100b is great. The manual control makes it aces.

Btw, I'm selling my DVX100B at the moment if you're interested. Depending on where you're located I suppose.

i'm in jamaica. i'm gonna go with a new one with a nice package. i'm a stickler...the thought if something going wrong with it and then wondering if maybe it was because it was used always gets me. thanks though.

    again...very nice work.
  • Ayz Waraich plus 3 years ago
oh no worries man, just thought i'd offer. ;)

Did u ude sony vegas for editing and magic bullet for cc?
  • Ayz Waraich plus 3 years ago
Everything was done inside Sony Vegas.

I don't use Magic Bullet, or any other plugin type preset.

  • Greg Wallis 3 years ago
Looks very cool, and the fact that you've done post in Vegas is very good to hear. I really look forward to seeing the final production.
  • Ayz Waraich plus 3 years ago
thanks dude. Not sure what will be happening with this right now... so lets see.

    Ayz,

This is a gnarly teaser. The shot at the very beginning with your brother's face being lit by the headlights, I like it a lot.

What was your lighting set up for that shot?

    Trey
  • Ayz Waraich plus 3 years ago
    haha. headlights. ;)

    when will this be complete?
  • Ayz Waraich plus 3 years ago
this is sort of on hold indefinitely. Shot it a couple of years ago, and plagued by some rookie mistakes -- I decided to just move on, and look at it as the best film school I could get.

this experience directly led to my White Red Panic short.

Too bad it's on hold indefinitely, I would've loved to have seen it. Good luck on your next projects though!
  • Ayz Waraich plus 2 years ago
Thanks Scott. Maybe it'll appear in some new incarnation one day.
  •
  • mightymau 2 years ago
what "techinical issues/rookie mistake" did you encounter?
if you dont mind my askin :)

great stuff btw! love your work.
  • Ayz Waraich plus 2 years ago
not paying enough attention to sound on set was one thing. I was hoping to off-set it towards post, but ended up being way too much work that didn't improve things too much. That's why I made sure I really worked it out on the next short film, and it turned out to my liking.

and lets just say the acting across the board was either good or meh depending on the scene. Which again, my fault since I didn't give it enough attention.

I'm still quite proud of some of the visuals and the atmosphere, as well as the story-telling. But over all I wanna put my best foot forward, so i moved on to a better short.

Anyway, I tried to remedy all that in "White Red Panic" and was much more pleased, as it seemed was everyone involved. You live you learn. ;)

I really liked white red panic. I felt like all the elements of it that needed to be strong were. I also felt like it wasn't over-produced with lots of speed ramping and slow mo and fades. It had some of that but it was classy and subtle. This teaser looks interesting but a lot of that has to do with your visual style, music and pacing. Keep up the good work man. I'll keep an eye on your page for new videos.
  • Ayz Waraich plus 2 years ago
    Thanks Jacob. Very appreciated.
  •
  • Very awesome man. You've created a creat piece of art here.
  • Ayz Waraich plus 2 years ago
Well it's just a teaser, but i'll take a compliment like that where I can get it. ;) Thanks.
