Maine has three major whitewater rafting rivers. The Kennebec is a remote river with a rock wall gorge. It’s great for kids, providing rollercoaster waves for the first half and smooth riding for the second half. The Dead River offers much of the same beauty as the Kennebec with the longest continuous stretch of rapids in the East. The Penobscot River lies on the outskirts of Baxter State Park, with an unforgettable view of Mount Katahdin, Maine’s largest mountain. There’s something here for everybody, from tents to furnished cabins to bed and breakfasts. There are also great amenities such as pools and hot tubs, restaurants and area night life. Besides rafting, there is hiking, hundreds of ponds and lakes and many other adventures waiting to be had in Maine.
