This was rendered with Blender 2.5 Beta in FullHD. 10 gigabyte of floating point displacement data and textures, generated with Blender's original Ocean Simulator, were needed for this 40 seconds sequence. I used OpenEXR and Pixar's lossy compression method to store the data, since PNG or JPG hadn't the necessary precision. The render time per frame was around 1m:30s on a 12 core system.

I like it! The displacement with fluid aspect is really convincing.
This is a scrypt? I've downloaded a Blender 2.49b Build some time ago with this ocean feature... Is good to see this in the Blender 2.5!!!

if I did my math right... for 40 secs. of video... that would be about 30 hrs. of render time (at 30 fps) on a 12 core system... did you use a multi - Raid 0 hd setup as well?

    Whoa! Extremely well done.
I've never used floating point data before, and I've never heard of the ocean simulator. Care to share more on this?
