Blender test: Wild Ocean Fluid Dynamics Simulation
1 year ago
This was rendered with Blender 2.5 Beta in FullHD. 10 gigabyte of floating point displacement data and textures, generated with Blender's original Ocean Simulator, were needed for this 40 seconds sequence. I used OpenEXR and Pixar's lossy compression method to store the data, since PNG or JPG hadn't the necessary precision. The render time per frame was around 1m:30s on a 12 core system.

This is a scrypt? I've downloaded a Blender 2.49b Build some time ago with this ocean feature... Is good to see this in the Blender 2.5!!!
I've never used floating point data before, and I've never heard of the ocean simulator. Care to share more on this?

I would love to see some BlenderGuru OCEAN tutorials, when the simulator is complete. :P
I wanna ask what about your improvements on simulations and Blender 2.5?
Amazing and so realistic.
I'm very glad to see the ocean sim is being brought back to life and ported to 2.5. Hope it will be included in trunk this time.
Tutorial would be nice! Thanks
