Originally trained in electrical engineering, Arvind Gupta decided to work at bringing science to children in ways that would make it fun and engaging. He did this because in the conventional approach to teaching science, he had noticed that, 'Children develop a distaste for science due to the sophisticated instruments in school laboratories.' Instead, he developed fun and simple toys from ordinary household items and discarded trash that could be used to demonstrate a variety of scientific principles. Arvind Gupta has conducted hundreds of workshops in schools throughout India and his books on science for children have been translated into several languages. This video is a compilation of short demonstration clips made by Arvind Gupta, with the assistance of Dr. Vidula Mhaiskar, Ashok Rupner and Shivaji Mane. It includes easy instructions for making dozens of toys and science projects, including assorted pumps, generators, motors and pulleys, a friction free bearing and a hydraulic jack, musical instruments and decorative items, merry go rounds, a toy boat powered by a working steam engine, and many others.
