Vera Smith and Jean Conrad, friends from living in Elmore Back, remember the 1947 floods. Vera and Jean talk about how the initial flood was quite scary, but then you had to continue living. No one stayed in Elmore Back, and Vera’s husband was the last to leave the village. Very few had insurance to cover the flood damage, although some small gifts of food parcels, buckets and brushes were provided to local residents.
