Ezran’s September “a series of rough-cuts and frame jitters”
This is a video based on my working experience here at BERJAYA University College of Hospitality. It was
taken sometime during September…thus…the title of the video.
In a way, it’s also an experimental video for me as I was testing out the capabilities of the Nikon D90 and
the editing software. But let’s get to that later.
All I want to say is…I had FUN shooting my colleagues and some of the University College’s students as
most of them had NO idea what the video will be used for. And most of them really thought I was going
to snap their picture instead of recording the shots. So it was pretty funny to see them posing for a few
seconds…and go like…”What’re you doing man? Aren’t you gonna snap?”…Hahaha!!
Yes, my life here can be pretty full of events and happenings. I shall not boast about getting to meet
celebrity chefs, interviewing them, taking pictures with them, getting free coffee and food, dining at a 5
star restaurant for free, and so much more. :P
Honestly, I feel like they (my colleagues & students) have become part of my family instead of my
colleagues. So to all…you’re like my brothers & sisters.
Other than this video being a self-exploration
experimentation thingy, it is also a dedication to all of you. Keep being ‘happening’! And smile…like we
always do…ALL THE TIME!!
On the technical side, I wanted to push the capabilities of the Nikon D90 movie mode. And I have to
say, I’m quite disappointed with the flickering effect you get most of the time. Probably caused by the
existing EXPEED processor. And Nikon has replaced this processor with an upgraded version which is
actually waaaaaaaaay better. Thank you Nikon!
Editing side, I also wanted to push the capabilities of the editing program…Corel VideoStudio Pro X2.
It’s basically a basic editing tool for consumers with/without experience. It has got its’ ups and downs.
But what I like about the program is…it’s user friendly, have got a lot of effects you can play around with
(even though you’re not gonna be producing any Avatar like movie), consistency is there even if your
system is not beefed up, and it’s pretty fast. And you’ve got to be creative enough to tweak the system
here and there to get different kinds of effects. For the kind of videos we do here at the University
College, it’s definitely enough. After all, I tend to mix a few softwares during editing. From the motion
graphics to the transitions. And plus we’re not producing a million dollar Hollywood blockbuster, right?
All in all, I’m very happy I got to do my own personal project. After putting it on hold for the past 1 year.
So I hope you guys will enjoy watching it, as much as I enjoyed shooting and editing it.
Cheers!
