This is a port/adaptation of Hector Martin's libfreenect for OS X made by Theodore Watson.

Hector Martin's Libfreenect project page is here:
git.marcansoft.com/?p=libfreenect.git

Most of the code is unchanged but there are some changes to libusb which was needed to get it running ( and a few extra libusb commands ) as well as some tweaking of the transfer sizes.

It should be self contained and you shouldn't need to install libusb ( the app links it directly ).

Grab the Source Code:

UPDATE:
( Tested on OS X 10.6.3 - 32bit now and with fixes )
theo.tw/deliver/kinect/001-libfreenect-modded-osx-updated.zip

ofxKinect for OF users - thanks Dan!
openframeworks.cc/forum/viewtopic.php?p=24948#p24948

Tips:
- Try both usb ports.
- Try not to have too many other devices plugged in ( or any ).

Really, really love the transfer rate glitches. If you can figure out where they're coming from and get rid of them... I'd be glad to find a way to re-introduce them :)

@Marc Gelpi Mateu: ofxKinect a joke?
Judging by how the OF community is rolling these days that will be matter of weeks (days?)
If I had one of these toys here, I would be working on that addon while typing this post :-)

is there a beginner step by step? i just joined the Mac Dev Center and started downloading XCode as per this link freenect.com/how-to-get-the-kinect-working-on-mac-os-x
But think i'm in way over my head! really want to get this to work for SOURCE festival -- used to run acolorbox.com with a wii and infrared barbie dolls but hope i can get kinect up and running. any link/beginner steps are appreciated.

Me too! Is using Mad-KinectMasker the way to go for non-coders out there who want to utilize Kinect for visuals/mapping? Any helpful suggestions much appreciated!
Awesome work Theo - still a fan of LaserTag. Thanks!

Located Robert Pointon's super-simple Kinect application for Mac OS X - fernlightning.com/doku.php?id=randd:kinect - that's a standalone Cocoa App with no external dependencies that enables users to hook up the Kinect to a Mac without having to even go near the drivers.
    Choice start!
