This film is currently in production, with an expected release date of Sept 2011. "Happy & Gay" takes up the issue of revisionist history, which includes issues of representation, censorship and redaction. The focus topic is the early 1930s in America, and the Hays Code of Hollywood, which established an erasure and re-representation of Gays and Lesbians. This document is a re-placement Hollywood animation cartoon that topically puts Gays and Lesbians into a positive profile and “historic” filmic document that should have existed concurrently, but could not because of the time period it references. I am, ironically, generating the film in 2D-digital (Flash, Photoshop, After Effects, Final Cut), but the final output as the “artifact” will be 35mm film.
