Could you please replace the video here with an HD version? It would look much better. Thx! Looks great btw.
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 1 year ago
BTW, what other gear did you use? How much did you speed up the audio during recording? How long did the shoot take?

  • rich savage 1 year ago
I cant export this from Premiere as HD for some reason, it keeps crashing, so it has to be SD I'm afraid.

Shoot took 6 hours, over 2 seperate days (3 hours each). All the slow motion was done in post using Twixor, because I wasnt sure which bits were going to be slo-mo before we shot.

Other gear was just 8 x 500 watt work lights, couple of generators, and a home made dolly.

Might be a plugin that causes the crash btw.

Great job, it's amazing what someone can do with an hv20 and a 35mm adapter. It looks really professional! well done to everyone involved!

  • What's sg pro rev 3?

  • Did use a steadicam or free hand?
  • rich savage 1 year ago
It was a cheap tripod + home made dolly.

how much was the 35mm adapter?
  • rich savage 1 year ago
I got it second hand with 3 lenses for £500. Amazing bargain...
  • I Love this video.. I always come back to watch....hey Rich, also wanted to know what lenses you got for such a great bargain!
  •
  • nice video.. sg pro seems like its very nice... one day shoot!?
  • rich savage 1 year ago
Nearly. The night time scene was done 2 months later. We couldnt bring the generators to power the lights first time round.

could you tell what adapter accessories did you use (follow focus, upside-down flip stuff, monitor etc.)?
  • rich savage 1 year ago
all i used was a portable DVD player, gaffa taped to the tripod upside down, to help framing. was useless for focussing though.

what was your recording settings and postproduction workflow like? i'm interested because i have an hv20 and sgpro and just absolutely love this music video.
  • rich savage 1 year ago
recording settings were 25p, shutterspeed 120, tv mode, contrast -1, everythign else normal.

Post, i edited in premier cs3, used a preset from magic bullet which i slightly modified.

Great! What was your lighting set up like? Did you use work lights with generators or something? How did you get the helicopter (was that just luck?) Also, where did you shoot this? Nice location and impressive video
  • rich savage 1 year ago
    8 x 500w work lights, 2 small generators.

Helicopter was an accident. It was a police helicopter that was circling us. Filmed on Brighton beach. We didnt have permission and the police had every right to land the helicopter and arrest us, but luckily they didnt.
  • andrew. 1 year ago
nice. The image you get is loveley from the sgpro, might buy one soon as i saw they are discontinuing the current model. Lucky about the police and it turned out in your favour as you got a sweet shot. Look forward to seeing your future stuff and thanks for the tip about the work lights and generators, seems a fairly cheap way to get a lot of light

Cheers dude. I think the blade will probably be even better than the sgpro though, so maybe you should go with that? I really trust wayne, he's a good guy, and i bet he's gonna keep making amazing products.
  • andrew. 1 year ago
mmm, the blade seems real expensive, and tbh i don't really need the flip option as i have had my camera hacked. Plus the sgpro seems so cheap. £299 is a bit of a bargain and my current adapter seems a little soft for my liking. Might try and get a second hand one as i'm sure a bunch of people will be selling once the blade comes out. Where did you get yours from?
  • rich savage 1 year ago
I got mine from a guy on the dvxuser forums. 2nd hand might be a good way to go, mine was such a bargain, even wayne himself told me i'd be silly not to buy it!
  • andrew. 1 year ago
Yeah i have been looking at forums, although i am starting to think maybe my adapter is sharp enough (i know, i'm fickle!) still not decided. Just a few more questions about your vid and i'll try not to bother you again ;)

Whilst filming, what was your crew like, or was it just you and the band? Is the aspect ratio 2.40? Also, what did you use to play the songback whilst the band performs? Did you use an amplifier and a cd player? (powered by generators) Reason i am asking is i have been asked to film a music video in the near future. Cheers mate.
  • rich savage 1 year ago
Well I'm actually in the band (I'm the singer), so essentially, every shot that I wasnt in - I was holding the camera. When I had to be in shot, i got a friend to hold it (who had no experience, i focussed the lens and told him to hit the red button). Other than that there was no crew.

The playback was from and old consumer stereo. It wasnt very powerful, but put it close to the drummer, and make sure they put loads of tissue paper in their drums to mute everything. I think the aspect ratio is 2.4 yeah, not sure.
  • andrew. 1 year ago
Fuckin awesome mate. Maybe i shoulda messaged you and not spammed the comments page....

Anyways, great way to promote your band, something my band needs! (i drum) looks like we share similar intrests.
Good luck to you with your future as a musician and/or filmmaker.
