When bright-eyed American volunteer, Chris, sets off to Tamil Nadu, India, he thinks he has signed up to volunteer at an orphanage run by Saravanan and Magil. However, his Indian hosts are completely unaware of the arrangement, and have been previously burned by the organization that has sent Chris. Uncomfortable with burdening his hosts, Chris sets to make the situation right. Despite his good intentions, however, Chris inadvertently pushes Saravanan and Magil to a point where they are forced to deal with unresolved guilt from the death of their son.
