This is the story behind the creation of non-profit Coral Restoration Foundation in the Florida Keys. Founded by Ken Nedimyer, the Foundation currently cultivates staghorn corals in a nursery, and replants them on the local reefs. In 1997 and 1998, back-to-back bleaching events wiped out nearly all the hard corals in the Florida Keys. What little staghorn were left was not sustainable. But thanks to Ken's efforts, staghorn are beginning to come back to the Keys.
