This week, we continue the sermon series, Enough. Today, we’re going to look at a radical statement that the Apostle Paul wrote: “I’ve learned the secret of being content in any and every situation.” We live in a culture that succeeds by creating dissatisfaction.
So how do we get to contentment, as Paul described? Notice he said contentment is a secret that has to be learned. It’s not our natural state. We’re often initiated into the club of contentment by enduring hardship, and thereby experience the faithfulness of God. Contentment arises out of this certainty that He’ll provide whatever we need for the moment and circumstance.
This week, we’ll also observe the Lord’s Supper. We do this to remember what God did for us in Christ’s death and resurrection and to proclaim the love, mercy, and grace of God who came to us in our circumstances and provided what we could not do for ourselves. What has God done for you? Remembering is part of learning the secret of contentment.
