Press Release:
Washington Iowa Live Animal Christmas Play DECEMBER 11-12, 2010
The Live Animal Christmas Play is a southeast Iowa Christmas tradition that is still going strong after thirty-six years of performances.
The Play is a full-scale theatrical production. The 2010 production will be presented Saturday, December 11th at 11:00am, 2:00pm, and 5:00pm. It will also be presented on Sunday, December 12th at 10:30am.
The production tells the Christmas story of the birth of Jesus Christ and is unique among Christmas events, in that the play is performed inside the church with the use of live animals in several scenes. Shepherds are watching their flock of sheep. Mary, riding a donkey, travels to Bethlehem with Joseph to be taxed. The manger scene depicts Joseph, Mary, and the Baby Jesus in the stable amidst sheep, cows, goats, and other animals. Get you picture taken with a real full size camel!
The production also features various state-of the-art theater technologies. In addition to full artificial stage lighting, the crowd will be awed by special effects such as fog, indoor snow, confetti blasts, and a live flying angel hovering over the congregation. Last year, over 3,000 people came to the little town of Washington, Iowa to make this event their Christmas tradition.
We invite you to attend any of the free performances. For more information regarding the Live Animal Christmas Play, please view the flyer online at marionavenuebaptist.com The church is located at 215 S. Marion Avenue in Washington, Iowa. Phone is 319.653.4113
