1. Blink 182 - Online Songs Kinetic Typography

For all you blink fans, here's something to spark your nostalgia. It's my first take on a typography project and I had to learn how to use After Effects from scratch to do it. You can really appreciate how the video gets better and more complicated towards the end as I got more confident and proficient at using the software. PLEASE watch it till the end and in HIGH QUALITY, or else you might miss the best parts. It took me quite a while to finish and I continued working on it through exams at uni and other school work. Fortunately I passed all my courses with good grades (I'm studying photovoltaic engineering at UNSW, in case anyone's wondering).

That was quite rad. and I just wanted to say it's amazing how I can watch such high quality stuff on my computer. I'm feeling better and better about the decision to dump my TV. Who needs it?!

Está increible, y justo cuando quería explicarles a unos amigos cómo se pueden utilizar recursos gráficos en 2d, utilizando a la cámara como viajera...
Me gustó mucho. Les enseñé un anuncio de cannes de los beatles, para la marca kleenex, no sé si lo has visto, pero el tuyo está mucho más ilustrativo y mucho más mareador... yeah!!! Espero no te importe si rolo el link no??? Creo que de eso se trata todo este asunto de andar haciendo cosas después de horas de trabajo... Por cierto, aún no sé que sea photovolatic engineering.

and where did you learn AE so fast? i'm actually quite interested in learning kinetic typography, and i think you've just inspired me that much more.

yes i've seen this one. i just completed, for the most part, one for a yellowcard song. all i have left is to do the backgrounds and make the instrumental parts more interesting.
the only problems i had was with the 3d motion, which you've seemed to conquer with ease. so props once more. maybe another while of tinkering for me will do it.

Did I just watch a noob become an after effects pro? You weren't kidding about it getting better as it goes. So sick!

Once it hits 1:57 it becomes one of the best typography videos I've ever seen. for serious.

How long did it take you, if you had to add up the hours, from start to finish?

It took me quite some time. I had to learn to use the software and it was merely a hobby so I only worked on it a bit every day. It took me about 3 months to complete, working on it intermittently (balancing exams and other coursework). I've been giving out some numbers for the total time spent on it but I'm really not sure how much time I spent. I probably spent more than 60 hrs learning the software, coming up with ideas, finding how to implement the ideas and then finally creating the thing. I found out that you can waste a lot of time just idling trying to think what to do for the next part. If you want to save time, make sure you have a thorough plan.

Yeah, I can technically offer it for download but I might get in some legal trouble with the record company (MCA, I think?). I'll probably get in trouble as it is, since there are ways to rip the stream from the web player.

You didn't list any way to contact you, so I figured I'd have to comment. This is by far and away one of the best kinetic typography videos I've seen, barring maybe Citizen Cope, but I prefer this one because it's so upbeat. Have you got any plans to create more videos based on upbeat songs? I'd be so happy if you did.
