  • Beautiful stuff, Jason. Love your cinematography! Can't seem to find your list of lenses & goodies. Do list!

*Sidenote, I've been playing that Boys Noize/Feist Remix for the past week, and then stumble on this!
  • Jason Mongue plus 1 year ago
    Thanks Travis!

I traveled really light with the gear for this project:
    .Two lenses (35/1.4L & 24-105/4L)
    .500mm Igus slide
    .64x B+W ND filter
    .tripod
    .7d

I shot everything at 1080/24p and 1/50s exposure. Generally used big apertures to get as narrow a DOF as possible (with the drop sensor and a relatively slow zoom). Next time I'll shoot at 30p to squeeze just a little more smooth out of the slowed down footage. On a project like this, it seems I end up using all the footage at 50-75% speed.

Edited in Premiere CS5. All the color grading was done using Premiere native 32-bit color correcting effects; RGB Curves, Fast Color Corrector, etc.
  • Whoops! Right in front of me! hahah--Seriously, I was too mesmerized by the imagery I blew by the description and had to post--Thanks, mate!

well, this video actually just made me sign up with Vimeo so I could THANK you for this beautiful piece. It was my first time at BRC this year and now, back in my normal life and getting ready for a trip home for christmas - snow and cold outside - this just made my day!
  • Jason Mongue plus 1 year ago
Thanks Alexandra! I saw your burning man gallery on your website. You captured some truly intimate brc moments. Took me back, thanks for that.

  • such a remarkable and amazing piece that it makes me realize just how much is possible with the 7D. congratulations on this. it's brilliant. are you going next year? im going to check to see what filters i used in FCP re: your question and get back to you. :)
  • Jason Mongue plus 1 year ago
Thanks Andrew. Agreed, the 7D can create cinematic images with the right light, lenses, camera movement, etc.
Yes, have big plans to go in 2011. Come swing by our Moroccan Tea Lounge camp and say hi!

Beautiful work, can I ask how you managed to keep that camera safe among all the dust and extreme conditions?
  • Jason Mongue plus 1 year ago
Thanks Matt. I kept the camera in a shoulder bag when I wasn't shooting and didn't pull it out during any major dust.. well.. only a couple times anyway.
Canon says the 7D and L lenses are dust proof, and they did seem to keep the dust out. The zoom lens might have sucked a tiny bit of dust into the front chamber, but nothing that appears to be affecting the images. After a meditative hour of cleaning the gear after the event, I swear the 7D is cleaner than it started!

Jason - wonderful stuff! You just took me back to the playa! Thank you. Come say hi in Lamplighter village next year - ask for Gideon!

If you have questions on Premiere Pro, just ask. I do a little show on AdobeTV.com called Short & Suite that covers questions on Premiere Pro. We're doing a lot these days with Canon DSLRs - it's a perfect match.
  • Jason Mongue plus 1 year ago
Thanks Karl. Just looked up your show, from the titles looks like there's some good learning in there. I've stuck to the FCC for my color work, but I think it's time I started dabbling in the three-way CC. Looking forward to inching up that learning curve some more.
And I'll certainly come by and say hi next year!
