Service Learning Expedition (January 11-22, 2012)
Through this 11 day Service Learning Expedition, you will create an opportunity to participate in a unique learning environment encompasing a cross-cultural experience, a direct introduction to your professional field, and an overview of the dynamics involved in community participation throughout stages of creating and managing an International Peace Park.
Our instructors for this expedition include Rob Fletcher, an expert in eco-tourism from the United Nations University for Peace; and Todd Walters, an expert in environmental peacebuilding and experiential learning; and the Founder and Executive Director of International Peace Park Expeditions.
The 2012 Parque Internacional La Amistad Service Learning Expedition to Costa Rica and Panama. This course will provide students with a unique service learning opportunity with community organizations that operate in the buffer zone of the International Peace Park. It also generates an impactful cross-cultural experience between students and the people who live and work or volunteer in these organizations on a daily basis. Students will interact with Parque Internacional La Amistad Rangers and Administrators and discuss issues concerning the dynamics involved in creating and managing an International Peace Park in Central America. This Program is designed for advanced undergraduates and graduate students interested in topics including, but not limited to: community development, natural resource management, environmental studies, and peace and conflict studies.
