Here's a little howto for my diy stabilizer. I know there's tons of videos like that out there. But I've never seen anyone make one out of a mic stand. It's kind of like a model kit: almost all of the parts fit together perfectly...

here's a link to my "Lousberg Bowman" video where i used the stabilizer: vimeo.com/818895

I also used it in this clip: vimeo.com/1114025

hey. nice work. where could i find the "head" that connects the bracket to the stand?
  • Martin Frericks 3 years ago
they are called ball heads and are used for photo cameras mainly. for research google "manfrotto ma 482". that's the one i'm using. but there are cheaper ones out there that work just as well.

What about lateral balance? What's to keep it from rotating like the second hand on a clock? The bubble may tell if you are level laterally... but, how do you achieve this leveling?

Your device looks pretty handy and would do a good job of horizontal balance... but, what about when the camera tilts to the left or right? ...not uncommon when you flip open up the LED viewing screen/window on a video camera.

It sure is a great construction and this Manfrotto 482 I like for many purposes and yours looks great! I still have the good old Steadicam JR. (and tried all other copies). Small and lightweight. Easy (easier) to get low staircase shots. It works the best with all the smaller cams up to 1,5 kilo and will not ever sell it.

I've got everything so far, but where do I get the bracket? I've been to 4 hardware stores so far, including a home depot and still haven't found one.
