My first entry on Vimeo. Also my first clip using my Canon XHA1 with the Letus 35 Extreme. The footage was taken in my home town of Dunsborough in the South West of Western Australia. It was Fathers Day and a few of my mates were down at our local boat ramp fishing with their kids. It was a perfect afternoon and even a few fish were caught.

I'm loving the Letus 35mm adapter. It's keeping me on my toes in relation to focusing on moving objects. I used a Canon 50mm f1.5 prime lens on the front giving awesome results. We'll at least I thought so.

love the movement on the scramble up the rocks, so smooth... just handheld?
  • Michael Fletcher plus 1 year ago
yep! just handheld but smoothed out in FCPro using the smoothcam filter. Worked really well on this clip. Sometimes tripods can make the footage to sterile, unnatural. If you know what I mean?

yeah, i know what you mean... always hard to find that balance between lugging a tripod around, or going handheld and getting pretty home-video-looking shots... the smoothcam filter did work great on that one!

sick if that was handheld! :)
  • Michael Fletcher plus 1 year ago
Sure was. Smoothcam in Final Cut ironed out the bumps beautifully.

I am looking to purchase an XHA1, and have been searching various sites hoping to find some great footage shot with one (and a Letus). Your images are beautiful, very poetic. I am now convinced that the XHA1 is capable of stunning images. Wonderful work!

Thanks John. Before you purchase one check out the new Canon 5d Mk2 still camera. It also shoots video but with the same quality as a still image. It is supposed to be amazing in low light which for me is important as I'm constantly shooting sunrise and sunset. It may have some drawbacks being primarily a still camera but if they have this technology its only a matter of time before it comes out as a dedicated video camera.

Michael I love your stuff! You have a good eye.

How do you have just the one color showing like at 00:56? That is such a cool shot?
  • Michael Fletcher plus 1 year ago
What you do is in color corrector 3 way in FCP you use the limit effect tab to select one color and invert it to de-saturate everything else. Can be a bit tricky getting it right. You can do it a lot better in Color if you have final cut studio. Look on the tutorials in You Tube for help.

    Thanks for watching.
