I'm sorry but this is such a rip off of El Guincho's 'Bomaby' music video. I think the 5D's shallow depth of field and flat image really works against the overall idea of the piece. The sense of revolt and youth culture that was so present in 'Bombay' falls flat here. The motifs of eyes, fire and smoke from 'Bombay' don't seem to fit in here and the slow motion doesn't seem motivated. A nice attempt, but doesn't hold up. I'm not going to criticise you for ripping Bombay, because I'm not sure that you did, and I like your vid too, but if you haven't seen it, watch it at Sam's link above, because he's right that it's really awesome.

I like it a lot, very entertaining and well done, and this is just my personal opinion (I am in no way related to pedestrian.tv) inspired and influenced by El Guincho's Bombay, definitely, but calling it a rip off is a bit too harsh imo. El Gguincho's Bombay is far more sophisticated and succeeds "getting a much bigger picture across" using provocative imagery.
  • Terry Hughes plus 1 year ago
i think you are right, El Guincho's video is more visceral and primal--you can feel the velocity of the imagery.

This one is more studied and cautious. Less risky and vanilla, but still an enjoyable ride.

    agreed

in my personal opinion is a very cool video, El Guincho's Bombay is too sexual for my taste.
El guincho's and broken bones have same concept as Heaven Can Wait - Charlotte Gainsbourg, so i wouldn't say this is a rip off.
    ps. well done!! beautiful shots.
  • Sam Cutler-Kreutz 1 year ago
I agree, having just watched Heaven Can Wait, that they both use a similar concept, but Bombay defines a completely new set of images and themes, and Broken Bones seems to just borrow those of Bombay.

I completely agree. I like both videos, Bombay and Broken Bones. However, El Guincho's video is a biiit too sexual for me, aswell. A lot of naked skin, concentrating on primarily women's breasts and genitals.. I have nothin against that, but I enjoy watching videos where there's not too much skin.

    There is no parthenogenesis!
Everything has been done already in one way!
The concept of abstract scenes has been done from the 60's. This videoclip is imo beautiful and well shot!
My question is on the shot with that girl resting on the wall!
Is it a vertical shot on the floor, motion tracked and replaced for the window?? Not to spoil the magic or anything, but its super...

Haha, awesome piece of work and following a little of what the commenters have been saying I would like to add that this video while it seems to take inspiration from 'Bombay' it brings a more interresting visual experience and there is a certain humour that resonates more with me than the sexual appeal of 'Bombay'. All and all both great video, however i prefer this one ;)

A question about the fire. I think it's real fire upon the Icecream and over the hand, but a friend of mine thought that is an amazing really well done work of compositing. What is the right version?

I love this song! I would love to see the video on The Tap Music - it's a great community for underground artists. thetapmusic.com. Some of the music there gets licensed in commercials, too.
