Kinect + Computer Vision + Javascript
DepthJS is a web browser extension that allows any web page to interact with the Microsoft Kinect via Javascript.

Navigating the web is only one application of the framework we built - that is, we envision all sorts of applications that run in the browser, from games to specific utilities for specific sites. The great part is that now web developers who specialize in Javascript can work with the Kinect without having to learn any special languages or code. We believe this will allow a new set of interactions beyond what we first developed.

Great work guys, can you share any more how the extension operates?
Minority Report? Wake me up when we have something like Iron Man 2 and at least that!!!
Iterative steps such as this should be encouraged, particularly when they are open source. I appreciate that this isn't for everyone but this initial step could potentially lead to a revolution in HCI.
Software wise what they accomplished is stunning :D
I wonder if you can take it to the level of being able to discard of the keyboard and mouse altogether. It would be great if you could select text, open context menus, type etc.
Programmable gestures would also be a welcome addition.
We think there are multiple ways to use the web. The Kinect offers some nice possibilities for casual browsing. Perhaps we will find a nice way to enter text, etc, but we are not there yet.
What about that?
I guess we all knew what's next when kinect was released. It's a great tool. Surely for education / public / advertising usage... But honestly, even though it looks cool, I think it won't be very comfortable for long-time usage.
Let me know, thanks! anthony@experiencist.com
But yeah, games. That's not usable for long-time web surfing. Multi-touch gestures and keyboard shortcuts (together) are still better.
