Michael A. Olivas delivers the Twentieth Annual Davis-Markert-Nickerson Lecture on Academic Freedom on Monday, October 11, 2010, at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Professor Olivas is a leading scholar in the field of higher education law, and his lecture is entitled "God, Grades, and Sex:The Developing Law of the Classroom."
The Davis-Markert-Nickerson Lectures are the longest running series of lectures in the nation on academic and intellectual freedom. The series was established in 1990 to honor three professors who were faculty members at the University of Michigan during the infamous "McCarthy Era". Two were dismissed by the University of Michigan, and one was suspended but later reinstated on the University faculty.
