Here is a quick video shot at the Bronx Zoo (Nov2010) with a Sigma 50-500 lens.
The lens is a fantastic lens for long range videography but focus is critical and the Sony VG10 needs focus confirmation to get the best results (or an onboard studio monitor) and sadly Sony hasn't equipped the VG10 with focus confirmation or focus assist: there is no peaking or image enlargement which would help immensely when working with MF lenses...perhaps a firmware update can address this!
Most of this video was shot between 400mm & 500mm (f 5.6-f8) to showcase the lens abilities at the long end: for those considering the purchase of this lens. It is a Nikon mount version with aperture ring and was mounted with an eBay Nikon F to NEX adapter.
I highly recommend this lens as it's results in full size are impressive. I am an amateur hobbyist and know others could achieve much better results.
This video was initially AVCHD at 1080i (really 1080p30) but was downscaled and compressed for the sake of quick downloads. Hopefully this scaled down version will show the type of results which can be expected of this setup.
I hope you enjoy the video~ cheers.
