Artist Mel Chin spoke at the Ulrich Museum of Art on March 5, 2009, in conjunction with the upcoming premiere of Season Five of the award-winning PBS documentary series "Art:21–Art in the 21st Century." Chin is an internationally acclaimed artist featured in Season One of Art:21. A major conceptual artist, Chin’s interests determine the form of his projects. Environmental, social, and cultural concerns shape his practice, with results that are always visually arresting with a poet’s touch. Chin has exhibited and created commissioned work around the world. From the National Endowment for the Arts to the Rockefeller Foundation and Creative Capital, Chin has been awarded many of the art world’s prestigious honors and grants. His latest project connects elementary-age schoolchildren, economics, communal art-making, and politics. The Ulrich is partnering with several schools in Wichita to contribute to Chin’s recent nationwide art project, Fundred (fundred.org).
