Five vignettes: The Pope Comes to Paris
The Pope was in Paris for the weekend of Sept. 12, 2008, to give mass before going to Lourdes. He gave mass Friday evening at Notre Dame, and Saturday morning at Les Invalides. My room mate and I attended the spectacle briefly to see his arrival before heading back to the apartment for naps. An estimated 200,000 showed for mass at Les Invalides.
1: The crowd on the corner of St. Michel Boulevard near Notre Dame.
2: Singing/prayer before the pope arrived.
3: The pope's arrival. You can hardly see the popemobile, but it's there.
4: Once the popemobile got to the stage and the pope got out, trumpets began to play as he went up to the altar.
5: Various people in religious dress walking toward the front of Les Invalides, I suppose to help in some later ceremony.
