About the animation, I might be wrong but, it looks like you are using IK's to control the arms. Maybe if you would use FK it might make it easier to create arcs for the arms, which are important since humans mainly move in arc shapes. When using IK it often looks like the origin of the movement comes from the wrist, creating a puppet effect. On humans our movements comes from the hip and then the shoulders and finally the wrist, personally I think it is easier to achieve this by using FK for the arms.
