Fifty People, One Question: New Orleans
When we set out to film, it was another New Orleans day. Once you get past the inevitable grime and heat, you feel a certain energy or “atmosphere”. Like a kid throwing himself into a mud fight.
It’s a simple question. And the answers can lead us anywhere. So go ahead, ask yourself…
Visit fiftypeopleonequestion.com and post your response.
We also asked this question in New York, NY. Check it out: vimeo.com/2164626
Thanks to:
Sarah Reece, Chris Shultz, Blake Haney, Robby Habans, Will Donaldson, the vimeo community, and all those who provided feedback and encouragement. Music by Fourtet.

Just curious, whats with the fades to greenish-black? Is that something with the compression or was it intentional? (Like at 2:00)

enjoyed it :-)
nice shots
:) This is great.
I think the music of Four Tet really added an emotional value to it.
I think everyone who watches this one will be better off for it.

Was the soundtrack custom? That was the cherry on top.
Very good, it sharmed me.
May our Atlantis never sink beneath the waves.
I find it curious though that most people wanted something or something done to them. I don't know if I would have given a different answer but it would be nice if someone would have given an answer of what they would like to be able to do to make them a better person by the end of the day. I guess its a mind set of America. Not that anything that some people said were bad but I would like to see how different the answers would be in different parts of the world.
Ahhh... there's a mission. :)
In much of the "third world" people's main objective is to just stay alive. I think if this was done in any large "Western" city around the world, we'd find that many of the answers would be the same.
For what it's worth, I would wish that Jesus would return to Earth before the end of the day.
Great comments.
:)
You should call this piece "Gin and tonic"
Well done

I want to make films with you.
I use an intermediate code "Cineform" (trial) to import the footage, then it makes it easy for the processor to handle the footage. I'm not on a fast machine, but it works.
Cineform comes with some simple, but powerful color correction plugins, that allow you to make corrections while not effecting the performance or requiring rendering.
Basiclly, on the shadows, I crushed mostly the reds, but a little but of green and some black.
On the mid tones, i did some tweaks, on the highlights I crushed the reds a bit more. Not much.
Then on the other plugin, I brought up the brightness, because all that crushing reduces the overall visibility of the subjects, then I raised the contrast.
Applied an unsharp mask, 4.1 radius, 50 percent amount.
Thats about it!
"I just wanna be happy" that's the answer
The emotion really came through.
Thanks for sharing
Also, congrats on a successful project.
I'm hoping showing off your movie to the Mrs. will help her understand why a 35DIY is 'needed' :-)
You've got to be totally stoked with all this crazy awesome feedback.
cheers!
This remind me "This American Life" tv show which I'm totally in love with.
Keep it up, we want more like this!
