What was the purpose of the gopro shell?
  • Dan Forsley 1 year ago
Mike: GoPros are everywhere and the fact that it was mounted on the main rig speaks to that. The camera itself was probably being used on another angle for the shot. The capture for personal use, maybe?

I could have created this ad on a GH2 with Twixtor, real snow, in natural light on a real street, and hire a real black cab in London.

It would be about 80% as good but a family run shoe shop could afford to be my client.

That is what aspiring filmmaking should be about.

But this is what it looks like when you're made it firmly into the establishment. You have a great eye Vincent and produce some lovely stuff but I'd like to see more done with less under the Explorer of Light banner.
  • Probly only 20% as good. 80% is a gross exageration. Twixtor cant handle any of this stuff too much detail everywhere and resolution, definition and latitude on a gh2 are nothing compared to a phantom.

Those big blimp type lights probly cost a lot of money too lol.

Whenever you see a lot of smiles on set, that is a good sign. Looks like fun, man.

looks like a great crew! Amazing commercial!

@ Mr. Reid, I don't see your point. A small shoe shop might have the money to hire you. But they probably can't afford an advertising slot to broadcast the commercial... airtime is expensive!

how easy would it be to replicate a similar look and feel with a bank of LED 1 by 1s. (lights used here look out of reach).

I had to perform that ladder stunt apx. 15 times on my own que because of the camera speed while coordinating with the 6 year old to move so I didn't kick him in the head when I spun around. @ 0:42

Was told I did a great job by the stunt coordinator and the people directing me, got no stunt credit and was paid as a background performer because it was a "low budget non-union" commercial which I felt was a little unfair.

Wish the kid had gotten in the shocked look instead of the smile. Looks great though.
  • Hassan Saddiq 6 months ago
Wow, that sucks man. When people are hired for something like this ad, do they tell you in the beginning what your job will be? if they say "okay, we want to hire you to do this ladder stunt" that means they should give you credit as a stunt man right? why wouldn't/didn't they, because they can pay a "background performer" less than a "stunt man"?

Just wondering about the business side of a big advertisement like this
