A good old-fashioned DIY DOF adapter test in the backyard with a Canon 24-105mm L f 4.0. It was too cloudy -as you can see- so the light was not at it's best specially under the shade of the tall trees.

No major post-processing, just some contrast adjustments.

Looks nice. Quite a bit of vignetting. You may want to try zooming in further on the ground glass... or... was that intentional?

Actually it is a problem since this is as far as I can zoom. I guess I need to do some adjustments to the adapter itself.

    Thank you Clan.

    Beautiful!
Moved me emotionally. A drama without words!

Do you take footage to your Mac in real time(playback)? because the reason stopping me to buy Canon hv30 is that it uses mini DV tapes!

How did you build your own adapter?
  • Moayad Hassan plus 1 year ago
I thought you bought the hv30 already :)

well, yes.. the tape plays and the computer captures. so if you have a 15 min footage it will take 15 min to capture on the computer. the computer can control the camera though, so you don't have to press rewind and play and pause on the camera itself.

with HDD camcorders you just download the footage files to the computer as if using a usb drive. But, if you are going to do some serious editing to it then you most likely have to transcode it to another file format, and that again takes time to do.

search for "HDV vs AVCHD" for more info. here is a good and simple one:

    eugenia.gnomefiles.org/2007/09/30/hdv-vs-avchd/

as for the adapter, i used this well known tutorial:

    jetsetmodels.info/pics/vh57x_tut.pdf

here is a video showing how it's done:

    vimeo.com/1364714

there are 4 parts of that video, so you know it's lots of work :)

    No, not yet :)

I am really grateful for your help and explanation. I found Wars between HDV & AVCHD! but i know at the end i will have to chose one.

    Thanks again.

I guess the HV30 is your best bet on the HDV side. You should find the best AVHD cam out there and compare it to the HV30 feature wise, not as a different format. Make sure you get the best camera regardless of its format because the war will not end very soon. That's my final advice :)
