Source material for this work is Super 8 footage shot in the early 1960s by Henning Gabrielson in and around Weeki Wachee Springs, a tourist attraction in Florida featuring aquarium performances by women costumed as mermaids (and, apparently, people costumed as mice). Original soundtrack by Mike Hallenbeck, 2010.

Trailer is an excerpt of the music accompanied by spliced shots; the actual film (about 3 minutes) is scored to an uncut excerpt of footage, edited only by Gabrielson in camera.

This piece is part of a body of work I call Retrofit Scores-- original soundscapes to accompany films which, for whatever reason, have no soundtrack. The process blurs the lines between musical composition, Foley, and overall sound design. A collaboration after the fact.
