massive! you prepared this for a long time? many bells ringing here, and some parts are really really nice, but dont ring a bell.. like the part from 9 to 11. are they real time fx or prerendered? dont recognise this kind of tiling thing from vdmx fx library. awesom!

Very cool... directed feedback? Feels like classic starfox game in reverse. Keep up the good work, love the plugins.

All effects are realtime, no pre rendering, and , actually, no feedback. All effects using custom software (Quartz Plugins for OS X), 4 layers of video being mixed in realtime with an additional feed coming from processing, from my cohort, outpt :)

    Glad you like!

Prep was about 2 days, really. We didnt get the specific track or set info till then, but I know their music, and had some things in mind.

what did you use for the mixing? is it all QC on your end or did you use jitter? Do you use jitter anymore? I miss your presence on the forum and seeing your crazy shaders and such. Is it possible to port any of the shaders and QC stuff you've been making back to jitter?

I like the part with the trees best for emotive impact 7:30 to 8:30 in particular, and some of the stuttery repeditive stuff near the end 9:20 to 10:40, I think that part is the most successful in terms of audio relationship. I think if I could see any room for improvement it would be mapping more audio responsive parameters, like in the beginning, you have some great light streaks that would rock even harder if they were really tightly syncd with those rolling snares. Are you using any Opengl geometry?

Keep up the great work man!

I used VDMX, but with only my custom QC effects and whatnot. Ive played a few shows with my in development app, v002, but I have not gotten a lot of important functionality working yet, so I use VDMX with QC mostly, as well as sampling some Processing sketches my girlfriend is performing on another machine (she uses Max 5 as a front end UI, sends info to my machine over OSC, where I sample it with my screen capture tool)

I dont really use Jitter anymore, because my focus lies elsewhere. I kind of cant stand Max 5, but its hard for me to articulate why. I want to build things however that Max may not be the best tool to build them in, so im using/learning Cocoa, leveraging QC and learning more OpenGL.

As far as the performance, I dunno, audio coupling kind of grates on my nerves for some reason. I dont think everything needs to be super audio reactive, as I try to really perform to the music. Those parts certainly are my favorite however, they work the best indeed. Im not using any geometry or 3D effects at all in that piece, its all straight compositing and custom imaging effects. Its not too crazy, just blurs, compositing, and some of the glitchy stuff I like :)

    Thanks!

Yeah, I know what you mean regarding the audio sync, it can come off a bit too literal sometimes, or become "winamp/itunesey." I guess my comment arises from the "uncanny valley' region of visualizations, where things are almost tightly in sync, but they are being coerced there by my own gestalt. I guess that could be me being lazy then, and not wanting to spend my brain effort correlating the relationships :P

Yeah, I understand what your saying on max front. Its sad though cause you were one of the only people I saw out there doing something really cool that pushed the community forward. We still have Benson though, man have you seen the stuff he is doing? jeez!! Its nuts cause I happened to be experimenting with something very similar upon going to his vimeo page, and was blown away by what he did with it. Using optical flow algorithms to create these fluid effect shaders. Really top stuff, you should check it out. I have it in my favorites and my channel on here. Also if you haven't gotten to yet, Come by my page and check out some of the things Ive been doing. I posted a pretty cool jitter/msp audio/visual test the other day. Thats where Im headed with my work, I want to create really nice tightly syncd A/V instruments for when maxforLive comes out, so that poeple can do fully syncd live AV sets on one computer! woot shaders!

Good luck, keep up the great work whatever software your using!
