Song #2 - "Wild Moon NYC": One of the exciting aspects of looping is that it lends itself perfectly to doing mashups; and one of the exciting aspects of this new solo show is that I’m including mashups of “guilty pleasure” songs from the ’70s and ’80s — it’s fascinating to go through old records (and newly purchased iTunes files) with an ear for which chord progressions are EXACTLY THE SAME. This is the first of (I hope) many fun/unexpected live mashups, and it’s done with only vocals. Song titles are at the end of the video, in case any suspense remains at that point about what they are.
One of the hardest things for me to learn — and I definitely don’t have it down yet — is how to sing best for the purposes of the vocal harmony box (the TC Helicon VoiceLive 2). It’s like learning how to be the world’s ultimate blending choral vocalist: straight tone, right in the center of the pitch, no scooping or quirkiness (or else the harmony notes will squiggle around and sound terrible).
Imogen Heap is really good at this; I am learning slowly.
