Fractal by Michel Gingras
ArtMatic, Premiere Pro

This is still a draft with very rough spots. I'm too eager to share this and would really appreciate comments. Next, render layers of video born of ArtMatic "listening"...

"HELP" ~ After Effect pro... I can send you 1080P for you to quickly add some |istening... a la this Abobe video... tv.adobe.com/#vi+f1519v1158

    Thank You!!!

It's, as Hans-Jörg points out below, mostly made with ArtMatic Pro.

I'll post pictures to Flikr and here soon too show how amazing the resolution can be.

Exporting HD on this little Imac can take days for 1 minute of video.

    Great video and marvellous music
  • LucidTV plus 1 year ago
Thanks! The song is actually called Ambiguity. This video was actually a sample to show my friend what I could "do" with his music.

The software also does audio recognition so I'm going to add a few layers of "video reacting to audio" for the final mix... the entire video might get shuffled around.

  • Looks like Artmatic Pro.
Great piece of software from Eric Wenger -the man behind Bryce.
    Its finally available for Intelmacs!
  • LucidTV plus 1 year ago
Indeed Hans-Jörg, it's ArtMatic... so easy to spot for us ArtMatic heads.

As you would know, many of the sequences are born of "seeds" that come with the software. I was glad to learn that we are free to use them. I'm still not a pro (after nearly 10 years!) at building amazing landscapes from scratch...

My favorite part starts around 1:40 - it reminds me of pressing on a liquid crystal display.
  • LucidTV plus 1 year ago
Cheers! It's fun seeing how many people have favorite parts when they "see" things they think looks like something else... face here, mushroom there...

I have to admit, I did try to create a mushroom sequence... I was time lapsing lovely mushrooms (indoors) when I created this, I was (and might) mix them together.

I think the colors are kitsch... Correction would do fine. X
  • LucidTV plus 1 year ago
Kitsch... kitsch psychedelic art is hard to make! Actually, that's probably not true, but I have a hard time creating things that have a more balanced "non rainbow" look to them. What drives me is the point just before everything is lost to white. It's the creation that comes near the white that amazes me. Somehow, rainbows and light colors are found near there.

I'd be very interested in seeing you download this video to rework the colors. I think it could be done rather quickly. Even a very very rough draft would be really nice to see.

Actually, for all the Mac heads out there... the seeds to make these video's are probably less than 50k in size... I highly recommend everyone try ArtMatic the demo to see how these can be made.

I'd love nothing more than to see what colors people perceive as "cool" "kitsch" "funky" "somber"

    Beautyful.
I like especially the "slow" parts, like 2:10 - 2:50 etc
  • LucidTV plus 1 year ago
Really? Thank you! I would love to create hours of the "slow" stuff. I know very well that the slow stuff is just perfect for use as a background entertainment on large HD TV's or computers. At full HD these fractals have a life of their own.

My current issue with this is that exporting 1 minute of video can take over 24 hours of render time.

I need a faster computer to make slower moving fractals!! I love thinking of this. I'm very much into Time Lapse and Fractal. They both take very much time to get right. They both show the world as we can't see it... I know I'm going to bring these 2 passions together. I have a few ideas how.

  • Very psychedelic and quite lovely. Keep up the good work and get a Mac Pro already! ;-) Peace

gorgeous! i like the bit around 0:24-25 when it gives the impression of the sheen of smooth hair. the slow fade-out from 0:58-1:09 was sort of cheesy like the fade in a 70's concert movie. would love to see more of the background from 3:05-3:15 unadultered without the fireball on top of it.

Pretty good, Michael. Felt like I'd been transported back to the 70's. Always loved fractal art, but noticed that a "problem" inherent to static fractals (the feeling of being stuck on the wrong side of a small window that blocks the panoramic view) seems heightened - at least in my "mind's eye" - with videos that pan and zoom. Not sure there's a solution, probably just me. I agree that the slow parts were the most enjoyable.
If your MEC friend hasn't already found a viable distribution medium, you might suggest he check out Magnatune.com to see if they'd be interested in offering music/fractal video compilations.

Zooming near the edge. It would be fun to flip it into itself with some transparent layers and cycles where there is room for dimension. Like around where the biomorphs color cycle and other smooth curves looking for fractured cracks to touch the surface.
