  • Cool stuff, that looks already quite mature! I see a lot of potential for Kinect based virtual musical instruments like this one, but how do you experience the latency for musical control?

How do you mean "how do you experience the latency for musical control?"
  • Well, the latency of the Kinect is quite considerable and there is a noticeable lag between gesture and the sonic results. Maybe with your guitar striking gestures that doesn't matter too much though ... So you didn't really experience a problem regarding the lag?
  • Chris O'Shea plus 1 year ago
No not really, the lag is really minimal on mine, or at least not noticeable enough. Its not doing too much though, and its not an accurate guitar ;) Will put up a video showing the person and the screen together at some point.

    poor left-handed people ;)

weren't you doing the same thing with the bumblebee a while back? how do you feel about the tracking here? it looks significantly more accurate to me.

Yeah, did you read this ;)

Depth image was much cleaner to work with now in my opinion, plus on the kinect you get the depth map through from the cam, you aren't relying on the computer to process two images in stereo to create it, so faster.

aha i fell for the classic blunder: watch the video, skip the description. ouch.

that's the one i was thinking of... yeah those two things (cleaner, faster) are huge benefits. the only negative difference would be 'not allowed outside' then...

looks like it could be a really fun game someday! Great idea!

This is certainly one of the "funnest" Kinect hacks I have seen!

Perhaps a trombone would be an easier instrument to track as you played it? Air tromboning might not catch on though.
