It has been my life's ambition to discover a new species of frog. This summer I joined an expedition with Conservation International and ProAves to survey the Choco in Colombia, the wettest place on earth, AKA frog heaven. Biologists have been unable to survey this amphibian El Dorado due to decades of civil war. But the government's recent crackdown on the FARC has finally opened up this area of extraordinary biodiversity to scientific exploration. There are so many new species to be discovered that even a novice like me can stumble upon one.

I could now die happy except for the fact that poaching, deforestation, pollution and disease are wiping out these animals before they have even been discovered. To help save them visit worldlandtrust-us.org/ which is running a special match funding scheme until the end of December 2010 which means your donation will be doubled.
