New VISION02 preset test
The ultimate XHA1 preset.
Download it here:
dvxuser.com/V6/attachment.php?attachmentid=7893&d=1221927091
EXPLANATION
The Trend:
When we use high end digital cameras, sporting more than 10bit, high res, no compression 4:4:4 color space, we want to shoot with few contrast, in order to correct it during the post production process.
The Exception:
With highly compressed HDV cameras featuring only 8 bit the trick above can't be done without affecting the quality drastically, because the camera only uses few of the 8 bits available to describe the image, obtaining banding and resulting in a heavily deteriored footage if color corrected.
The Solution
Creating a preset that uses the most bits possible, with REAL BLACKS AT 0 IRE, and that can be used without any CC
VISION02
This preset sports high contrast, 0 IRE blacks, less banding and better SN ratio.
VISION02 SETTING PARAMETERS
GAMMA CINE1
KNEE LOW
BLACK PRESS
PED 0
SETUP -9
SHARPNESS 1
HDF LOW
DHV 0
COR 0
NR1 OFF
NR2 HIGH
CMX CINE1
CGN 0
all other parameters at 0 (default)
This clip is original from camera converted to H264
PLEASE FEEL FREE TO LOWER THE NR2 SETTING IF YOU WANT SOME MORE SHARPNESS AT THE PRICE OF A BIT OF NOISE.

Can you post a download link here please?
PS. Is this set on ntsc or pal version camera?
PS. Filename is VISION01.CPF - you shure this is correct?
It almost looks like you changed something in white balance settings (color temperature?)
My conclusion is that if i'ts only a temperature matter, you can do it in the camera, but if you have to change the color i.e. only of the shadows or mids, or bright areas you have to CC aftwerwards.
But as this preset has less banding than others i tried before, i'm quite less afraid of CC.
I found a new way to CC, using Photoshop.
Thanks!
I'd also like to know which adapter/lenses you were using?

version XH-A1 ?
tom
any special settings you recomend for low light?
Here's a example of a preset I made inspired by a lot of your presets. I have used this pretty consistently on the last few projects I have done:
vimeo.com/7255576
was also used on this one:
vimeo.com/6681928
but BLK was set to STRETCH. The H.264 codec tends to wash out the video a bit, but the raw preset should have more contrast than this.
Here are the settings:
PRIMEEIGHT
GAM 2
KNE L
BLK M
PED -9
SET -9
SHP 4
HDF M
CMX 2
CGN -4
RGN 8
GGN 11
BGN 12
everything else is set to 0.
