Made this for the contest to win an HD video camera on gizmodo.com

The music is Umbrella Suite, released under a Creative Commons license. I would rather have used some other music, but I had to follow the contest rules.

I've seen this happen for real many times. People round here have taken to holding their phone (when using the hands free adapter) to make it obvious what they're doing. But to me that defeats the purpose of hands free. I guess maybe they're less likely to get a brain tumour or something. Technology can be silly.

it is going to really suck when in 20 years we realize the horrible health implications of all our fun toys...

I love it when I hear people doing this in the bathroom.

Dalas: did you injure yourself? Heely's accident?
  • dalas verdugo staff 1 year ago
No, that's Adrian's leg brace. He just recovered from a soccer injury and the doctor let him stop wearing it that very day. When we were picking him up at his house, I saw it and decided it would make me look crazier.

    it did, lol :P

    This is funny....

I try never to assume...but i do find it excruciatingly annoying when people are talking with these things but don't nessasarily need to.

    Reasons to use these:
    1. driving
    2. doing chores around the house
    3. holding or feeding a baby
    4. pretty much any activity where the use of your hands is REQUIRED.

Reasons you should not own one:
    1. to solely free up your hands for the ability to swing them around while you talk the the phone.
    2. if you don't have a job.
  • Loonachic 1 year ago
    ^ exactly.

    great clip, dalas!
  • trp0 1 year ago
I'm so going to start using my hands-free for haphazardly swinging my hands around for no particular purpose. :)
  • Chelsa 1 year ago
what i mean is people that talk with their hands....in a wild manner.

and i would like to add...I have never heard an important conversation ever held while this device (or any hands-free) device was in use.

    I just find them obnoxious.

ps. to anyone that uses them, please take no offense, i probably do something that would bother the shit out of you too. We are human after all.
  • dalas verdugo staff 1 year ago
They're really dumb and annoying (especially the ones that have that blue blinking light that makes people look like cyborgs), but I really do believe there is a link between cell phones and brain tumors, so we really should be using these things.

I'm going to start using mine now. It's been sitting in the package for 3 years until we made this video.
  • Chelsa 1 year ago
i agree with the link between cell phones and tumors.

Good thing i HATE talking on the phone. i actually only used 11 minutes (during peak hours and not very much any other time) last month on my cell.

My hatred of talking on the phone makes it difficult to stay in touch with family and friends i have all over...good thing i have email, vimeo, and flickr.
  • islebehere 1 year ago
dalas, i can't believe you've had the same cell phone for 3 years!

chelsea, if ya don't have anything to say to me, don't call! i can't stand that! did you call just to hear me breathe???
  • Chelsa 1 year ago
how'd you know that was me? *blush*
  • dalas verdugo staff 1 year ago
Yep, I bought it in June of 2004. I haven't had any reason to get a new one, but if the iPhone is good I will probably get one of those. Or if they come out with a phone that has video recording good enough to replace my camera.
  • JoanPH 1 year ago
What is with the blue blinking! I am sure it doesn't actually serve a purpose, except to annoy me. It's like "Hey, look I have a device in my brain!" Oh, maybe it is to alert folks in your proximity that you are not talking to them : )

Yeah, I hate it when people assume that open spaces on benches are free, too.

All you have to do is ask.

    Sheesh.

thats what I thought this clip was about at first!

Ahaha!!! I'll have to add you to my set fire to people using bluetooth/handsfree cell phone devices, list.

Man, this list is long, you will go on page 5,342.

    Great video! Hope you win!

lol that was great! I think that was the first "Pro-Earpiece" commercial I've ever seen!
I really enjoyed the filming technique in this one too, how you were kinda cut off on the right in that close up etc..

I just realized, the funniest thing about this clip is your freakin weird conversation.

    "I will not!"
  • dalas verdugo staff 1 year ago
Haha! I can't believe you didn't notice that before :)

I was just trying to think of what conversation would be the most uncomfortable for someone to overhear.
  • Ian Lucero 1 year ago
    i know... i'm kinda retarded.
  •
  • mikedup 1 year ago
I was in a public bathroom one time and the guy in the next urinal started talking to me.... well, at least I thought he was. I assumed, and I was wrong.
