My wife and I were thinking about having a go at this. Do they offer experience jumps like they do with hot-air ballooning and suchlike? It would be a great 50th birthday present for her.

Dude, seriously. Try normal skydiving first, get your freefall license and then have a go at BASE-jumping before even considering this. It takes an unbeleaveable amount of skill and experience to control a wingsuit, however easy these guys make it look.

Start off by becoming highly experienced and proficient at skydiving by acquiring AT LEAST several hundred jumps. You can then start learning how to fly wingsuits on normal skydives. You can also start doing regular BASE jumps (without wingsuits) after you have several hundred skydives. Once you have about 50-100 wingsuit skydives and 50-100 regular BASE jumps, you can then start flying a wingsuit on BASE jumps. After you become HIGHLY proficient at wingsuit BASE (several hundred wingsuit BASE jumps), you can then maybe start trying to proximity fly like these guys. It's not a "just for the experience" or a "bucket-list" thing. It requires an investment of many thousands of dollars and a strong dedication for many years. You also have to keep in mind that it's one of the most dangerous activities, and that many of the greatest wingsuit BASE jumpers are already dead or will be dead within a matter of years. If you truly desire to do it, then go for it, but it's not something that you can just rush into.

I love this video! And have shared it with many of my non jumping friends. To those who say, "I have to do this"; I've been in the sport 36 years and I wouldn't try it! I have several friends, alive and dead, who are/were base jumpers and it is what they live for. I'm the same for belly flying (conventional skydiving) and it's a habit I never wanted to quit. After many years and several thousand jumps I was coming in to land and the area got crowded and I hit turbulent air and dropped maybe 50 feet to the ground. It broke both my legs, many foot bones, fractured both my hips and crushed L-4 and 5. I can't jump anymore but through a miracle from God I do walk and work again.......All I am saying here is that for some of you who know nothing about the sport, "Don't think you can do this without many years of experience and even with that.....shit happens!" Looks fun, and is, but very very dangerous. Harold D-5611

Harold, shouldn't this be an Olympic sport? I wonder about mars lander type airbags and really, really awesome courses, maybe at sea? I'm picturing: best Olympic event ever, kids learning about aerodynamics, weather and safety/life, the meaning of.. I appreciate your serious post and I appreciate that you said it is fun.
