A collage of high speed images shot on Super 8mm and 35mm negative film. This sequence is part of the film MULTI COLOURS which i co-produced and directed with Marijke Steegstra. I attempt with this sequence to get audiences to appreciate the multicultural people that share the Hatert Market. I shot this sequence using the Nalcom FTL 1000 Super 8mm and the Konvas 1M; then i DIY scanned both sources, re-timed and conformed the sequences to 24fps. The slow motion is a script i borrowed from my previous teachers - Florian Cramer and Michael Murtaugh. The script which works on the command line essentially converters the video to still frames, makes specific copies of the frames and renders the images back to video. I chose to use the CinemaDNG format in order to maintain the quality of the sources. The audio is a composition using Ghanaian fontomfrom and heavy metal chimes. The look and feel of the film was achieved by physically dyeing the stock, blow drying and bleach bypassing. Software used are Cinelerra, Imagemagick, Ubuntu Linux, Apple FCP and Adobe CS4.
