UPDATE: 12/22/10 Smoothees are now shipping! Tiffen delivered the first hundred yesterday.
When you attach an iPhone 4 to a Steadicam Smoothee, you have a very useful new tool. As you can see in every shot, the image becomes an enormously more pleasant HD scene.
Here we visit an Auto Show, a Holiday Feast and an almost-new human being as she encounters the world with fresh eyes.
In the Auto Show segment camera operator Michael Craigs is seen as he shoots with an iPhone 3GS. His actual shots are superimposed over the covering HD image from an iPhone 4.
Note the faster-edited closing portion of this segment. Shots seem to have been captured with a boom arm or dolly.
The Feast features a set made to look like a Norman Rockwell moment. After I finished shooting, we ate the props. Its tough work, but somebody had to do it.
Movie makers often repeat WC Fields' line: "Never work with children or animals."
Bzzzt! Wrong answer. Besides; he'd rather be in Philly.
We were informally demonstrating the Smoothee to some neighbors when a young lady walked in, filled our lens and showed us how to take delight in simple moments.
Children and dogs. Always work with them...
BTW: the camera clips all have metal tripod sockets. Time-lapse anyone?
