Cantave Jean Baptiste talks about seed saving and sharing in Haiti, and about local control: getting farmers to think about themselves as actors rather than recipients of aid from NGOs.

"Most of the NGOs in the area, even promoting good practices …have their own programs and most of the time the programs have been designed overseas, in the United States, in Europe. … it seems they are accountable mostly to the headquarters and not to the communities. … We should impinge on those NGOs to strengthen local organizations [that] could continue and even improve those practices. We could encourage the local organizations to assume themselves as actors, [because] most of the time they do not own the processes [which are] owned by external organizations."
