On Saturday, 23 August Katie and I spent the day with Paul and Aleisha scoping out their wedding venue at Mt Tamborine. After that we headed down to Snapper Rocks to do a fun engagement shoot.

Here's the video from their photo shoot.

Dude, you rocked it!! That is by far the best engagement shoot I've ever seen. They usually bore me because of the repetitive shots and corny interviews, but you just nailed it. The shots, the editing and the color grading were completely sick. If you don't win an award for this piece, the system is rigged.

Awesome! Loved it! Can't stand it when they roll up their pants though. Looks so dorky when they do that.
  • Matt E plus 1 year ago
Cheers Josh! Fair enough comment about the pants ;)

Hey Matt, Great job! I would have added some more intimate close up shots of the two within the montage. I felt a little distant from them kind of like watching a commercial. It would've been better to feel the couple a little. Also, I think your video would be even more powerful with a couple of intimate lines of dialogue between the couple somewhere in there.
  • Ray Roman 1 year ago
I have to disagree. This was not an intimate type of song and dialogue between the two would have killed this piece. Besides, the corny interviews (dialogue) are a thing of the past and not original. You felt a little distant and wanted to feel the couple a little?? You must be a die hard romantic. Matt, don't change a thing!
  • I agree about not enough close up shots. I didn't even know what the couple looked like until the last half.

VERY well done though. I loved it. The blown out B&W and silhouette shots were amazing. Definitely inspiring. Thanks for sharing!

I'd love to see what this looked like before the color grading.

What a wonderfull work! And I like a so smooth fly camera motion. It's like a dolly movement, do you have dolly :) ?
  • Matt E plus 1 year ago
Hey Versa. No dolly - using the Steadicam Merlin.

hey man do you use a flip on your brevis? if not, what's it like shooting without a flip? think I'll only be able to afford the brevis without one.

by the way your videos are great, good to see some film talent from Toowoomba, aha... you film for a company? or just freelance?
  • Matt E plus 1 year ago
Hey Rhys. I'm using the flip module on my Brevis. I've been running my own business for about 3 years now.

    Thanks for watching!

Hey Matt, how many lenses (and which) were used in this video?
    Thanx!:)
  • Matt E plus 11 months ago
For this shoot I would have used mainly my Nikon 50mm 1.8. A few shots were done with 14mm 2.8 that I borrowed for the day. It was very hard to give it back :(
  • Talnikov Mikhail 11 months ago
    At 1:14 moment done with 14mm? :)
    Thanx Matt!

is this vignetting an efect from MBL or is it from the lenses??

because i'm really concerned about vignetting...
    specially with my coming 24mm2.8.

    and you used a 17mm2.8.

how did you deal with vignetting?
    thanks...

Hey Matt, that's some outstanding color grading, I would love to see a tutorial some day on how you do that. I wouldn't want you to reveal any secrets, but just a start, you and Tom Guilmette are my favorite videographers!
