Last November, Matt Katz, a journalist and good friend of Goods for Good, came to visit our programs in Malawi. For Matt, who has watched goods for good evolve over the past few years, this first visit to Africa brought everything into focus.
During his stay, Matt experienced the beauty of the country and the warmth of its people, as well as the devastation caused by HIV/AIDS, drought and famine. He also had the chance to see goods for good in action and the impact our work is having on the lives of thousands of children.
Matt was so moved by his experience that he filmed a short documentary on goods for good's work, which we are thrilled to share with you here: goods for good: A Video Postcard from Malawi
Matt had this to say about his stay in Malawi: "What really struck me most about my week in Malawi was the work that the goods for good team is doing that goes beyond the stated mission of their group. They are building relationships and making connections in sustainable ways that will hopefully help lift Malawi up. This is a shockingly impoverished nation, the most densely populated in Africa, with needs that run deep, from clean water and basic medical care, to shoes and shelter. But Malawi is also peaceful and generally politically stable, meaning that organizations like goods for good can operate safely and without excessive governmental interference."
Matt was also able to see G4G's role in strengthening the ability of communities to alleviate the suffering of orphans and vulnerable children, Matt explained: "The work they do and the impact that we can have with G4G as our conduit is remarkable. I hope they're as proud of themselves as the rest of us are of them."
