Now, what I would like to know is what type of aircraft(s) and camera(s) were used in making this
    wonderful film?
  • H5 Productions plus 10 months ago
The aircraft used for this was a Eurocopter AS350 B2. This is commonly known as the 'A Star'. The camera was a sony HDC1500 that is internally mounted in a storage compartment in the back. The lens is front mounted in a gyro stabilized system called Cineflex. The lens is a Fujinon HA22 X 7.8 lens

Beautiful... nice shot departing from the Scottsdale Airport (I think it was Scottsdale... it's been a while).
  • PhotoShip One plus 9 months ago
It was Falcon Field (FFZ) in Mesa.
  • H5 Productions plus 5 months ago
That is correct. It was Falcon Field. The people at Falcon Field are entirely GREAT to work with. At the time, they had only one runway and let us do that orbiting as the B-17 sat on the numbers awaiting take off.

Absolutely some of the best Air-to-Air video quality I have seen. I used to work at Falcon Field, and have a couple friends who are crew members on the B-17 and B-25. I have video of the B-17 & B-25 from the ground, but nothing that compares to this video. Congrats on a job very well done.
  • H5 Productions plus 6 months ago
Thank you...and the tower and the people at Falcon Field were fantastic. This was before the 2nd runway opened and all that orbiting around the B-17 when on the ground held up some traffic, yet, they were happy to do it.

I have come back to this video many times. The only improvement would have been to show footage from inside as they flew. My father in law "Norris Taylor" (still with us)handled the 50's in the top turret.
    Thank you !
  • H5 Productions plus 6 months ago
We hope to do that in November for Veteren's day. Stay tuned and we will try to incorporate!
  • jeff jones 5 months ago
I am sad to note that we lost Norry last Sunday 8-20-11 .

My Dad passed last night 8-28-11.

He was a Decorated Combat Veteran in the European campaign with Patton's Army during 1945 and 46
He was discharged as a Staff Sargent and held a commission in the newly formed Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant. His goal that was nearly attained was to fly P38's against the Germans. He ended up liberating folks from the God Damn Camps.
He is a HELL of a MAN
    RIP Marvin D. Jones
  • H5 Productions plus 5 months ago
Jeff: Wow, what a life of experiences he had. Liberating people from the camps...I can't even imagine the feeling...the impact on one's soul to be a part of that. I am sure you are glad to have been a part of his life. My father is close, 92 and breathing is difficult. On a carrier in the south pacific. God bless.

Super, thanks for posting! My dad was a skinny little American-Italian in WWII (on our side of course) and because of his size they stuck him in the B17's ball turrett (sp?) as the gunner. He still jokes (at 85) that he was too young to realize how EXPOSED he was, lol. It's even more special becasue while he was born and still lives in Jersey, his boot camp was in Kingman, AZ, and Mesa is a 20-minute drive from where I now live here in Phx. Good stuff.
  • H5 Productions plus 5 months ago
Thanks for sharing about your dad. We hope to do a veteran's day piece this November. Well, this was filmed in your back yard! The Superstition Mountains, Canyon Lake! We appreciate your feedback.

And in writing all that I forgot to mention how well done this piece is, fantastic job. The image quality is gorgeous--what camera do you use? Looks so good! 5D Mark II? Arri D21? Whatever it was, beautifully shot. The editing is equally good, transitions and flow have such smooth rhythym. I'll be back 2x a week myself, this is a great video and editing LESSON as well as a great piece!
