The Need 4 Speed: The Art of Flight
A collection of shots from flights made during the 2009-2010 season by the talented group of wingsuit basejumpers, while flying the V3, Hybrid LD2/Trango rigs and testing several new V-series wingsuit prototypes around Europe.

Feel the need. The need for speed!

A big thank you to Hybrid for sending us their compliments and allowing us use of their awesome track “Disappear Here”.

    wingsuit landing....someday....
  • Ed Rogers 1 year ago
Exactly what I have always envisioned. It can't be impossible. Just a controlled stall.
  • Misteranf 1 year ago
Controlled or not, stall is momentary and transfers to free fall. Anyway, just imagine, at which airspeed this configuration will stall... I honestly doubt that "landing" at that speed will be survivable, let alone injury free. Is here anyone, who actually does wingsuit flying, to bring some knowledge? Looks like they fly on the edge of stall nearly all the time.
  • Phoenix Fly plus 1 year ago
The flying is not on the edge of stall. But pushing a wingsuit for low vertical speeds in a controlled flare still has us traveling forward at speeds that would make a wingsuit landing resemble jumping of a motorcycle at 200 mph wearing nothing but a 1mm layer of clothing.

With luck it would be survivable. But the joy is the flying. For landing we use parachutes....
  • Balleka 9 months ago
That little comment is the heart of it, The joy is the flying! And what indescribable joy and that's only from watching the video. Absolutely mesmerising.
  • Roy 8 months ago
Funny huh? When something becomes somewhat safe, we allways find a way to make it unsafe!

Invent and "perfect" the parachute; now we can jump somewhat safely. Now what? Lets stop using it and land without canopy!

But hey, that's the mentality that makes us evolve eh?
  • Pat MacLane 8 months ago
So even with the stall there is no way that it could be done injury free. Hmm, there has to be a crazy bastard eventually that will try something like. Amazing shots guys thanks you sooo very much for sharing.

  •
  • Lorene Amet plus 1 year ago
This is amazing, but the scariest sport I have ever seen. I do not understand how you can control your movements that much, in case your trajectory is too close from a cliff or the trees. Also, how do you slow down your speed without the parachute on? It seems a lot less in control than paragliding but perhaps I just don't know about base jumping.
  • Phoenix Fly plus 1 year ago
There is full control of what we do, down to the cm. The speeds are high, so it is a bit more difficult to judge proximity without a lot of experience. The controls we use are the same as an airplane using aelerons/flaps. Only our flaps and aelerons are arms and legs.

What you see in this video is an example of years of training. All flyers have 500 to 2500 wingsuitjumps, on top of their normal skydiving/basejumping experience.

You should use a better camera like a GF1 with a wide angle lense !
  • Phoenix Fly plus 1 year ago
All flyers in the video are passionate people who spend all their time persuing their dream of flight. Sadly that doesnt always allow the budgets needed for use of such camera setups. But anyone having spare GF1 or similar cameras lying around is welcome to donate to the good cause..:)
  • Michael Kiely 1 year ago
If you posted this video on kickstarter.com and pre-sold copies of a new HD video I'm sure people would donate more than enough for a gf-1. Awesome video man!

This is an amazing video. When you guys get close to the ground or other objects that are just inches away from you, it gives me chills each time you do that. I would love to go wing suit flying for sure and this will be on my bucket list. Great job guys and please continue on making these videos.

watched this peace soooo many times from the beginning to the end. It skips heartbeats and you do forget to breath once in a while. Can't get over how much control and planning you guys have over the flights...insane!! You deserve to be filmed in a cinematic way too to acompany your pov stuff. Like with the cineflex and some people that do understand the sport really really well like:
    brainfarmcinema.com/cineflex_hd.aspx
    thnx for this edit.
  • Phoenix Fly plus 1 year ago
There are one or two cineflex shot in this edit. The method of shooting mostly depends on budget, which is only there when we're part of big commercial productions.

Watch IMAX for the HUMAN FLIGHT 3D movie, to see more of the same athletes flying camera and performing.

Sick, thanks for the tip, I will put that on the things to watch list. IMAX is awsome:D

EPIC!!!!!!!!!!! This is the best wing suit video out there. Perfectly clear I feel like I'm there. All the flyers performing the most extreme stunts of all extreme sports combined.

It gave me chills on multiple occasions.

This proves that our childhood fantasies of flight are not only possible but have been manifested by some serious stunt men.
