1. I.O.U.S.A. motion graphics by Brian Oakes
1 year ago
It seems appropriate, given the precarious times, to pay some praise to the recent documentary I.O.U.S.A., not just for the great message but for its motion graphic design. Informational graphics take center stage in a film that puts the U.S. financial crisis into very real terms and images.

An in-depth interview with designer for the film Brian Oakes was recently posted over at Design Observer. Some of the clips are available for viewing below.

This is a great use of graphics to explain a powerful polemic. Especially liked the animated medicare/social security budget bar graph - a great bit of after effects work there.

See also Knife Party's (Simon Robson) infographics for Taking Liberties - also very political and very beautiful.

And that's what I think it's the real issue...
Check out the comments! How many human , breathing, persons, bi-pedal, homo sapiens got the real message???
Your animation was great! But that was not the message.
Are we doomed? Don't we get it?
Can't anybody see what's going on?
