Tour of the main line of the Duckunder Terminal Railway, Raleigh, North Carolina. Taken 9-26-08 by Will Allen, Founder and Chief Dispatcher.
The Flip Ultra camcorder car was pulled and shoved by a Lionel Legacy-equipped Union Pacific GP-7.
Trains & locomotives passed or met include a troop train (Lionel NP 4-4-2), switcher (Lionel SRR 0-8-0), The Old Mullet Road local (Atlas A&EC RS-1), The Chief (Lionel ATSF 4-8-4 #3751), Coast Daylight (Lionel Legacy SP GS-4), The Grand Canyon (Atlas FM Erie-built A unit), DUTRY business train (repainted K-Line RS-3), Pioneer Zephyr (Lionel CB&Q 1934 3-unit Zephyr), and the California Zephyr (Lionel Legacy WP F7 ABBA units).
The trip begins in downtown Noralmia (New Orleans-RALeigh-MIAmi) at track's end and proceeds through the Noralmia station to Midway, where the Noralmia line joins the main line, passing The Chief at the station.
Reversing direction, we pass the Coast Daylight on double track and proceed up to the bustling town of Barrett, highest station on the railway, where we wait for the Santa Fe's Grand Canyon to pass.
Leaving Barrett we pass behind the NYC facades to reach the terminal throat tracks, but we stay on the main and pass the CZ before leaving double track and entering Heuer Canyon that leads us back to Midway, end of the journey.
I can be seen in a blue-striped shirt several times (and, embarrassingly, my facial expressions make me look to be in pain). On the last run-by of the CTC panels, George Lasley and I are seen standing together.
Also note the "DANGER - SLOW DOWN" handwritten signs which my 9 year old son provided to warn engineers of the coming curve into the terminal throat tracks.
